    Living Well Workshop
    February 8 - March 15
    Wednesdays
    12:00 - 2:30 PM

Feel better about your health! Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshop has empowered people around the nation to make the changes in their life that they want to make. The group is discussion-based with topics including pain management, physical activity, healthy eating, communicating with health care professionals, and more. A chronic condition is any ongoing health issue such as diabetes, arthritis, chronic pain, depression, and vision or hearing loss.

This program has been designed by the Stanford University Patient Education Research Center. This program is funded under contract with the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging Inc. as part of the Older Americans Act Program funding. Presented in partnership with the Wilder Foundation.

    It helps participants to:

    • Find better ways of dealing with pain and fatigue
    • Discover easy exercises to help improve or maintain strength and energy
    • Learn the appropriate use of medications
    • Improve nutrition
    • Talk effectively with family, friends and health professionals
    • Understand new treatment choices
    • Feel better about life

“I now have a new sense of being in control,” said Doris, “The Workshop has really helped me put life back in my life.”

The workshop meets every week, for two hours, for six weeks. It is led by specially trained volunteer leaders, some who have health conditions themselves. The program covers new topics each week and provides opportunities for interaction and group problem solving. The leaders are more like coaches who guide participants through the topics. The answer to someone’s question is usually in the room from another participant who has gone or is going through a similar situation.

The program serves those who are 60 years of age or better who are living with a chronic condition themselves or are caring for someone who is.  Everyone who participates will receive a, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions” reference book.  A sliding fee scale is used to determine the fee of the program; however no one will be turned away for an inability to pay.

    Community Discussions on Aging
    Open to Everyone!
    Thursday, March 23, 2017
    10:00 AM to 2:30 PM

Whether we’re 5, 55 or 105, aging is happening to all of us. That’s not going to change. What can change is how we view aging and how we treat one another and ourselves as we age.

According to Yale University researchers, negative stereotypes of aging become negative self perceptions later in life. Often these perceptions operate below awareness, yet have a dramatic impact on quality of life, health, and even longevity.

Join us for this engaging day of introspection, discussion and connection led by the Vital Aging Network and sponsored by East Side Neighborhood Services.

Thursday, March 23, 2017, 10:00 am to 2:30 pm at East Side Neighborhood Services, 1700 Second St NE, Minneapolis. Open to everyone!

East Side Neighborhood Services will provide complimentary lunch for this session.

    Registration required by March 16
    Call (612) 787-4045 to register or eva@esns.org.
