SCSEP promotes personal dignity and self-sufficiency for older, unemployed, low-income Americans by placing them in temporary part-time community service jobs where they earn minimum wage. This year at East Side Neighborhood Services, 222 highly-qualified older adults will be served, and 46 will be placed in unsubsidized jobs throughout Hennepin County.
If you are a Hennepin county resident age 55 or older, unemployed, and income-eligible, you can gain valuable on-the-job training while serving your community, work at a local nonprofit, and develop skills while searching for unsubsidized employment.
Not only does SCSEP sustain vital aging and empower older Americans to remain connected, but it also helps 53 local community, faith-based, and public agencies carry out their missions. A representative from one of these agencies, Redeemer Health & Rehab Center, says, “The people sent to us by East Side Neighborhood Services bring skills and life experiences that can be matched to our needs, and as a result they feel like they are contributing to a worthwhile organization in a meaningful job.”
At East Side, we believe that a multi-generational workforce performs well but an intergenerational workforce performs better.
