What is Narrative Therapy?

With Raphael Szykowski, LicSW

We all have stories.  Stories about our abilities, where we came from, and how we feel about our place in the world, to name a few.  As we go through life, we subconsciously attach meaning to these stories.  The meaning we make of our stories impacts all aspects of our lives, including our relationships, how we see ourselves and how we view the world.

Narrative therapy helps to identify a pattern. For example, if we were told we must do AB and C our entire lives, can we make other choices? If we were told we were rotten kids, must we hang on the that story as an adult? What if that story is not so useful for us today?  When the story is more hurtful than helpful, it may be time to change the story.  This discussion explores the stories we’ve been told and whether we can “rewrite” that storyline for the here and now?  There will be time for Q & A after the presentation.

All are welcome to attend this presentation.  There is no fee for this service, but registration is required.
