What makes NECDC special?

Mission Statement:
To foster the healthy development and well-being of individuals and families while strengthening our diverse community.

Philosophy:
NECDC offers the opportunity for each child to develop physically, socially, and cognitively according to individual learning style. Each child is considered unique in temperament and rate of development. Curriculum is planned to enhance and challenge particular, distinct individual needs, interests, and abilities. Activities and relationships occur in a healthy, positive and relaxed environment in which a well-qualified staff provides personal attention, guidance and nurturing to each child. The Center maintains continuity and consistency throughout the program by developing relationships with families.

Program Goals:
A primary goal of the program is to offer a high-quality early education program that permits the children to discover and learn, to become decision makers and problem solvers, and to feel good about themselves. The Center uses the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation criteria throughout all components of the program. Additionally, other program goals for the children are for them to develop in the areas of cognition (thinking), language arts (talking), literacy (reading), social/emotional (relationships) and physical development (moving and doing).

We are proud to provide children with a learning environment that is safe, welcoming, educational and fun.

Children Foster curiosity and autonomy through educational pathways.

Our Infant program goes so far beyond regular daycare. Here, babies are made to feel safe, secure, and happy. This class gives warm, caring teachers an opportunity to bond and develop trust with little ones. Each child has a primary caregiver who will guide your child’s development and be your main point of contact  NECDC offers a safe, nurturing environment where children learn about themselves and their feelings. They develop relationships with caring teaching staff and with other children. Our goal is to make your baby feel safe and loved. This bond creates confidence in your child so that he or she will be ready and excited to learn new skills while in our care.

Moreover, we build a relationship with you and your family, prioritizing open communication so that we are working in partnership to promote the growth and development of your child. We use the Bright Wheel mobile application to stay in touch with you throughout the day, and we hold parent/teacher conferences two times a year to discuss your child’s progress toward age-appropriate developmental goals.

Our relationship with your child starts with routines, which helps infants feel safe and nurtured, and also helps them learn. We work with you to continue and support the schedule you have developed with your baby. Daily routines at NECDC include:

  • Hellos and Goodbyes

  • Diapering and Toileting

  • Eating and Mealtimes

  • Sleeping and Naptime

  • Getting Dressed

Your infant will also gain new skills through a variety of enrichment activities in a warm, nurturing classroom environment where they will:

  • Play with stimulating and educational toys

  • Dabble in art

  • Imitate and pretend

  • Enjoy stories and books

  • Taste and prepare food

  • Explore sand and water

  • Having fun with music and movement

These energetic little ones are growing and learning, so we channel their energy into positive learning moments by giving them ample room to move and explore. Our toddler program builds upon our infant program by introducing new activities and learning opportunities that foster the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of your child. We use the Creative Curriculum, a play-based learning curriculum, in our toddler classrooms.

Teachers encourage and guide toddlers toward the growth of their physical skills and emerging milestones through:

  • Stimulating classroom environments

  • Milestone-based curriculum

  • Immersive learning experiences

  • Educational toys and activities

Our curriculum is Creative Curriculum by Diane Trister Dodge.  This curriculum for toddlers will help your child extend their communication and social skills, learn new thinking skills and practice movement through play. Teachers develop lesson plans based on the emerging skills and interests of the children in their classrooms. There is also time in the day for child-initiated play and discovery. As in the Infant Program, we use the Bright Wheel mobile application to stay in touch with you throughout the day. We hold parent/teacher conferences two times a year to discuss your child’s progress toward age-appropriate developmental goals.

Your child will gain new skills through a variety of enrichment activities, engaging with teaching staff and socializing with one another while:

  • Playing with Toys

  • Dabbling in Art

  • Imitating and Pretending

  • Enjoying Stories and Books

  • Tasting and Preparing Food

  • Exploring Sand and Water

  • Having fun with Music and Movement

Why NECDC children are kindergarten successful

School readiness refers to more than just knowing the ABCs. We believe that children must also gain “ready to learn” skills, such as how to share information in a group, how to ask and answer questions, and how to solve problems and explore solutions. We take a holistic approach to early childhood education, addressing every aspect of a child’s development. NECDC classrooms engage children intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially and help prepare children to meet the expectations that both elementary school teachers and parents have for school readiness.

We encourage children to learn through hands-on exploration guided by teachers who inspire curiosity and creative thinking.

The result is well-rounded, confident children who possess the ability to solve problems, make decisions, and engage with others.

NECDC’s preschool and pre-kindergarten program focuses on six aspects of children’s development: social-emotional, cognitive, physical and language/literacy. Our curriculum develops specific skills within each of these categories including:

  • Self awareness

  • Responsibility for self and others

  • Prosocial behavior

  • Learning and problem solving

  • Logical thinking

  • Listening and speaking

  • Reading and writing

  • Gross and fine motors skills

Preschool and Pre-K children learn through play. We encourage children to develop their skills through activities in:

  • Blocks

  • Toys and Games

  • Dramatic Play

  • Art

  • Library

  • Writing Center

  • Sand and Water

  • Music and Movement

  • Cooking

  • Technology

  • Nature environments
