Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)
SCSEP promotes personal dignity and self-sufficiency for older, unemployed, low-income Americans by placing them in temporary part-time community service jobs where they earn minimum wage.
If you are a Hennepin county resident age 55 or older, unemployed, and income-eligible, you can gain valuable on-the-job training while serving your community, work at a local nonprofit, and develop skills while searching for unsubsidized employment.
Not only does SCSEP sustain vital aging and empower older Americans to remain connected, but it also helps dozens of local community, faith-based, and public agencies carry out their missions. A representative from one of these agencies, Redeemer Health & Rehab Center, says, “The people sent to us by East Side Neighborhood Services bring skills and life experiences that can be matched to our needs, and as a result they feel like they are contributing to a worthwhile organization in a meaningful job.”
At East Side, we believe that a multi-generational workforce performs well but an intergenerational workforce performs better.

SCSEP is operated under a USDOL grant and in cooperation with Senior Service America, Inc. SCSEP is funded by a $45.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. This funding provides 90% of the support for SCSEP with SSAI providing 10% match or $5 million. The SCSEP Program is an equal opportunity program. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.
